Synopsis

The surfing tradition known as ‘Viya,’ which has been practised for generations in the Black Sea, is facing extinction. The series tells the story of two young surfing enthusiasts, Deniz Toprak and Roksan Sarfati, who are inspired by their roots and strive to preserve this ancestral sport for future generations. Leaving their lives in Sri Lanka behind, they embark on a journey to Toprak's hometown of Ordu. There, they rediscover the deep-rooted connection between the people of the region and the waves. The documentary explores whether this ancient tradition, threatened by modernisation, can be revived and become a defining part of the Black Sea's cultural identity, using the region's powerful waves as a backdrop to tell a story of cultural heritage, struggle, and hope.
